Fresh from the Sea

The freshest lobster and crab

Seafood party

While I was planning my Cornwall trip, Fresh from the Sea was high on my agenda. The little restaurant/cafe is located in a small fishing village in Port Isaac. As the name suggested, the restaurant is all about fresh seafood, with its own day boat catching live lobsters and crabs off the Cornish coast. The catches are delivered directly to the restaurant and cooked on the spot, meaning you are getting the freshest seafood. The menu is simple, with a selection of seafood sandwiches and salads. For serious seafood lovers, best go for a whole lobster or share a large seafood platter so you are able to sample the finest seafood Cornwall has to offer.

I started off the meal with some local Porthilly oysters, which caught just a few miles from Port Isaac. The oysters were so creamy and juicy, I felt like I was eating the essence of the sea, never before had I tasted oyster in such a clean and refreshing form. The crab sandwich had a well-balanced ratio of brown and white meat, really well picked with not a single trace of the shell as often you would find even in a fine dining restaurant. The main event of whole lobster was a meaty affair, the natural sweetness of the native Cornish lobster was second to none, super tender with such a lovely depth of shellfish aroma, so enjoyable with just a dash of lemon juice to uplift the freshness even more.

Fresh from the Sea delivers the freshest seafood in a no-nonsense manner, there are no fancy presentations or colourful garnishes. The restaurant simply uses top-level local Cornish seafood serves it with bread and salad in the old-fashioned British mood, letting the diners enjoy seafood in its most natural form. Fresh from the Sea is indeed a special place and for anyone heading to Cornwall, a visit is a must should you are a seafood addict like myself.
