British pork champ

Mangalitza pork belly |
I have lost count of how many times I have been to Quality Chop House, the British chophouse has a cult status and is super popular with London foodies. As the name suggested, this restaurant is all about chops, using the finest meat sourcing from all over the UK. They have something really special that not many restaurants are able to get hold of: The mangalitza pork, a really flavoursome pig breed imported from Hungry and now a handful of British farms are able to breed it locally. The pork is basically the wagyu beef version of pork, loaded with marble and bold depth of savoury taste, whenever I visit Quality Chop House, that is the must-order item.

Brixham brill |
At my private room visit, it started off with a selection of starters to share. The classic mangalitza pork head croquettes were as enjoyable as ever, but I had to go easy with the bread as I knew what was coming... While Quality Chop House is an expert in meat, it turned out they are not bad at handling fish either. A whole Brixham brill was cooked sea aster and seasoned wonderfully with preserved lemon and sea salt. The fish was cooked to perfection, soft and moist with a hint of buttery flavour, the saltiness of the sea aster with the bitterness and sourness of the lemon created a beautiful harmony with the brill. The main event of mangalitza pork didn't let me down, cooked pink with a stunning charred smoky aroma, the meat was so tender and every mouthful was pure joy, it was pork at its best.

Lemon tart |
Quality Chop House delivered a sensational meal, it was British cuisine done brilliantly well using the finest local ingredients, what is not to love? The group the restaurant actually has a more upmarket restaurant called Portland which has a Michelin star, but personally, I find Quality Chop House to be the real star. While I do love fine dining, sometimes big cuts of meat with some simple side dishes are just as enjoyable. For meat lovers, it would be foolish to turn down this restaurant and ensure you give the special pork a go.
