The ultimate seafood temple

If you visit Lisbon, the chance is that a meal at Ramiro would be on your to-do list. The casual neighbourhood seafood restaurant is considered the best seafood restaurant in Lisbon. They don't do anything fancy, just using fresh seafood produces and cooked them to perfection. I have been to Ramiro a few years ago, but I could still recall how wonderful it was, and I decided on my return to Lisbon that I will head there not just once, but twice. Thanks to Covid, the restaurant is now taking reservations, which is a blessing as otherwise, you can easily wait a few hours to get a table as this restaurant is legendary to both the locals and tourists.

Over my 2 visits, I went wild and ordered pretty much everything on its menu. Without a doubt, the highlight was the giant scarlet prawn, grilled to perfection with a pinch of sea salt and lemon oil dressing. The umami explosion from the prawn head was second to none, and the prawn tail was so sweet and moist. The razor clams cooked in a garlic and coriander stock were simple but done to perfection, the clams had a nice smooth chewy texture and tasted just like the sea, truly wonderful. The langoustine was the most expensive item on the menu by weight but it was easy to understand why. It was simply poached with such a fresh and sweet taste, it was simplicity at its best.

Ramiro was heavenly as expected, the seafood there is just pure class and I got nothing but love for it. At the end of the day, if you have such fresh, top-quality ingredients, simple cooking is all you need to create something very special. The wine is also very reasonable, with some bottles cost less than 10 euros. The service is reasonable, don't expect world-class service as is a standard neighbourhood restaurant at the end of the day. Simply out, if you love seafood and happen to be planning a trip to Lisbon, Ramiro is the no 1 place to add to your visit list.
