Modern casual vibe, traditional taste
Creamy rice with Palamòs prawns |
Somewhat a strange name, Mediamanga is a modern Spanish restaurant located in the heart of Barcelona. The restaurant labels its concept based on traditional Mediterranean flavours, but with a modern playful touch, using the best it can get from all the Catalan markets. Unlike many other edgy gastro bars/restaurants in the city, Mediamanga doesn't do tasting menu format, with a short a la carte menu spit into snacks, starters, and mains. This is especially good if you are looking for something light or have limited time, so this place makes a great lunch spot.

Summer truffle and mushrooms carpaccio, comte cheese and rostit |
To take advantage of its a la carte menu, I ordered a few things to share like tapas. Truffle and mushrooms carpaccio was just the summer dish that everyone would love. The light earthy aroma with a hint of sweetness was truly wonderful, every element of the dish worked in harmony while looking so beautiful. Red mullet and pickled foie gras dish were at a remarkable level. The fish was touched which delivered a lovely smoky seafood aroma, the dish itself had a very enjoyable chewy texture while the foie was creamy yet not overly strong, it somehow worked perfectly together.

Mediamanga was excellent, I would rate the cooking as good as many other 1 stars restaurants I have been to in Barcelona, but at a none serious, casual vibe where you can turn up in any outfit while enjoying the food with beer on tap. The best seat is without a doubt the 2 bar space facing the opening kitchen, where you can check out the chefs at work. I can easily see this place would get a Michelin star if it is in London.
