Remarkable British gastro-pub food

Pork, carrot and mushrooms |
I am back again at The Harwood Arms, the only pub in London with a Michelin star, owned by chef Brett Graham who also is the chef patron of The Ledbury, aka my number 1 fine dining restaurant in the UK. The Harwood Arms is much more casual than The Ledbury, with a fixed-priced 3-course alc menu focusing on primary seasonal British ingredients. It has a strong focus on game-based dishes when in season, such as pigeons and deer.

White asparagus soup and crab toast |
|
Spring salad with trout and smoked sour cream |
|
Short rib and celeriac, walnut |
For my starter, I had an interesting asparagus and crab soup. The white asparagus was really sweet with a small hint of earthy bitter taste which worked really well when served cold. The freshness of the crab acted as a good contrast so was well balanced dish. The beef short ribs main were the best dish of the night. the intense beef flavour was stunning, cooked to perfection with a super moist texture. The beef sauce and roasted onions added further in-depth umami taste, it was classic British flavour at its best.

Cornish cod, artichokes, hazelnut |
|
Deer, pale ale and prune |
|
Custard flan, peach |
My 5th time visiting this legendary pub, and it delivered another high level of British dining experience that can rival many other fine dining restaurants elsewhere in London. While this is a pub, the refinement and quality of the cooking can be inside a 5-star hotel, which is not a surprise as is overseen by one of the most respectable chefs in the UK. The Harwood Arms is without a doubt the best gastropub for food in London.
