Part of the Creative Restaurant Group's offering, which also contains Humo and Sumi, 20 Berkeley is a modern British restaurant in Mayfair that offers a club feel vibe focusing on prime British ingredients. The decor has a retro British Embassy vibe for me, and the menu is simple and easy to understand. with no gimmicks, no ground-breaking ideas, just smart-looking British cuisine done in a refined manner. Since launching, I visited the venue twice, the first time I opted for large plates, sharing style feasting dishes. And the second time I ordered from its standard ALC menu.

The tomato and strawberries lobster salad is the kind of summer dream anyone would dream of. The freshness and cleanness of the tomato consomme worked like a treat with the sweetness of the Scottish native lobster. it was packed with flavours while remaining light. A giant plate of slow-roasted lamb leg was wonderful, the meat had a really moist texture and fell off the bones easily, it was roasted lamb at such a high level. The star dish for me is the grilled whole John Dorey. It was cooked just right with the garlic and herbs oil dressing adding a lovely sourness to the fish. The cooking of the fish rivals other seafood specialist restaurants in London.

20 Berkeley for me is at the sweet spot price-wise for a quality 3-course meal without hitting above the £100 mark. It is not trying to reach Michelin star status with anything fancy or quirky ideas in its cooking. However, it does use very fine local ingredients with great detail in its cooking. I think along with Noble Rot and the recently launched Midland Dining Room in King Cross, these 3 are my ideal places to go for a solid 3-course, upmarket casual dining experience.
