Traditional Milano cuisine with a twist

Whenever I visit Italy, eating at a local traditional restaurant is a must as those venues can be just as amazing as fine ding venues. I picked Osteria Conchetta mostly based on the restaurant is not too far from my hotel, but just from looking online, the offering is really exciting with plenty of great reviews. Good ham, rice, and meat dishes, all sound wonderful to me. What caught my eye is the restaurant's take on risotto, besides all the classic Northern Italian ways of cooking rice, Osteria Conchetta's signature is creamy rice cooked in a giant Grana Padano cheese wheel with vodka.

The dish was indeed special as it is prep by the table. Our waiter first add vodka inside the wheel and then lit it up, before adding the rice and mixing a silly amount of cheese to a level that the whole dining was blessed with such an inviting savoury aroma. The dish was finished with some black truffle and the taste was sensational, it had a bold creamy taste but was not overly rich, and the earthy and cheesy taste worked in harmony. The meat course of slow-roasted veal chop was another rock-solid dish, super tender and well seasoned, the white wine and port wine worked like a treat too, it was roasted meat to a whole new level.

Dessert perhaps wasn't as strong as the starters and mains, but overall I really enjoyed Osteria Conchetta's food offering. It was traditional Italian flavours done at such a great level, the chef has fully taken advantage of great local ingredients and delivered some top dishes. The service was top notch too, spoke very good English and was very polite and friendly. For a special rice experience, Osteria Conchetta is the place.
